From a Parisian Elopement to Executive Power Couple

  • If you’ve ever doubted whether romance and business can go hand-in-hand, then “power couple” Candice and Ken Corby’s story will make even the most cynical heart sentimental.

    The two met while dating other people and at the time, Candice had been hoping that Ken would eventually employ her. Six months after meeting, they began seeing each other and it became clear to Ken that he liked her far too much to ever hire her.

    Four years later, they eloped, were married in Paris and then spent their honeymoon hopping from French vineyard to vineyard, celebrating their love, and cementing the beginning of a beautiful life and partnership together as husband and wife.

    Both are CPAs, have held executive positions at a number of prominent corporations and are at the helm of their companies. Candice is President and CEO of Cobra Legal Solutions LLC, and Ken is Founder and Chief Advisor of his own firm, KTC Advisors.

    Candice (CandiceCorby.CEO) was born in North Adams, Massachusetts where she graduated with an accounting degree and earned her CPA. At age 26, she became the youngest CFO at E.W. Scripps, and her career has accelerated from there. She has since been a CEO and COO at many other organizations before taking her current position as President and CEO at Cobra Legal Solutions LLC, a firm specializing in providing legal support services.

    Since becoming CEO in 2010 at Cobra, Candice has increased the firm’s revenue by 600 percent by implementing CobraPulse™, a technology solution which helps clients with eDiscovery. She is listed as a Top 10 Female CEO in 2016 by dotCEO.

    Ken (KenCorby.CEO) earned his Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Accounting and Finance at the University of Dayton before earning his CPA designation. Similar to Candice, Ken has held executive positions as a CFO, CEO and COO at a number of companies. Over the years, he honed his skills in financial planning and management.

    During his time as CFO at Emerson Radio, a worldwide consumer electronics company, Ken helped drive growth –— the company was listed on Business Week’s 100 Hot Growth Companies with an 807 percent share price increase. In 2013, Ken founded KTC Advisors, a consultancy firm helping businesses streamline, reorganize and navigate the often turbulent and unpredictable waters of the business world.

    What’s the secret to their success?

    Candice and Ken live by the principles of transparency and collaboration. Transparency extends to all facets of the business from colleagues, board members and stakeholders through clear communication. A spirit of collaboration is essential in any business and helps drive growth from the bottom up.

    Giving back to the community is important to the Corby’s. Helping fellow female business associates is a cause near-and-dear to Candice. She’s a founding member of her local Ellevate chapter, a women’s professional networking group. Candice is currently training for her second full marathon.

    Ken is chairman of Austin’s Habitat for Humanity and a former trustee for Ballet Austin (with plans to return in 2017. He is also serves on the Directors’ Council for the University of Texas at Austin, Butler School of Music.

    With their busy schedules, Candice and Ken still romance and make time for one another and maintain an active lifestyle in Austin, Texas. Candice regularly schedules breakfast meetings with Ken to spend quality time together. Ken enjoys cycling, racquetball and climbing to new heights.
