Twitter Short Code

'Ups! PeopleBrowsr links on Twitter are ugly!'
That's what I (Priscilla) came out with, this morning.
Why ugly? Because they were long, and they looked messy and they were not clear and way-waaay too big in font size.
After grumbling a bit, the guys made me happy: they built in minutes the Twitter short code. Now, when you post a tweet from PeopleBrowsr, the 'from PeopleBrowsr' link is cute and tiny. Look:
Well done, Team.

MySpace Launches Dev Platform

We went to to the event in Sydney, Surry Hills: the presentation was exciting.
The MySpace Team is travelling around the world to present the platform that will allow developers to build new applications for MySpace.
We definitely want PeopleBrowsr to be one of them.
At the presentation:
  • a lot of talking about Caja, the javascript sanitizer, developed by MySpace and Google, to make Javascript safer.
  • and many interesting twitter-ers : Mick, Lisa (Herrod), Markus, Max (MySpace), Alan, Laurel, Claire...
Back to work.

Google Launches Application Engine

Google has launched its web application platform. It has a Python standardized platform for apps developers, which is pretty damn cool and may help us scale PeopleBrowsr. We can't wait for them to add PHP and SQL environments.

Joyent Server

Talking to users, we understood how important reliability is, for them. We never want PeopleBrowsr to be down for maintenance, so we're setting up a Joyent server for our preproduction environment.

It's so important for developers to work on a dedicated development server if preproduction is to be kept tidy. Every new release will be updated on preproduction after testing for demos.

Facebook New Profile

The Facebook profile is set to change: new design, new tabs and new showcase dimensions. It'll be brilliant. And we're building two versions of PeopleBrowsr Facebook application:
  • A big one, to be used in the wide profile view
  • A small one, to fit in the narrow column, next to the wall
Both of them look fantastic!

Improvements after testing

In response to the last group testing and our web strategist's advice, we've made some changes to the site and to the apps. It's been a month of slogging it out but here are the results:
  • Easy feeds filtering: lots of options and combinations are available in the filter, with intuitive sorting.
  • Quick tagging and grouping.
More to come, so stay tuned.
