Although we’ve been anticipating it for years, I think we can all agree that the digital revolution is now transforming every aspect of our lives—at home and in business.

Everything we've ever thought about willpower is wrong. Studies show we don't have a limited supply of it. It's also not something we can manufacture or build. Which means, every time you excuse away why you didn't achieve your goals due to a, "lack of willpower" - you've been lying to yourself.

In many ways, the current beliefs and thinking around leadership are amazing compared to the leadership beliefs of prior generations. No longer does it feel like leaders have to rule with an iron fist, not care about their people, or be afraid to show vulnerability in front of those people.

Over the years I have written about the importance of strong leadership in business and the essential qualities a leader must have. These qualities are timeless, and they are especially important when times get tough. In the face of difficult challenges, great leaders do not retrench. Just the opposite – they step up.

Imagine paying $3,995 for a cell phone. Someone did on March 13, 1984. That person shelled out what was then a quarter of the typical American’s salary to acquire one of the first handheld cellular phones to hit the market, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X.

So you’ve decided to become an entrepreneur – congratulations! You may not know it now, but you’ll remember this day for the rest of your life, hopefully for all the right reasons.

Before he joined Hootsuite last year, our senior VP of product, Andrew, co-founded a chain of bike and ski shops. He was founding investor. He hired. He strategized. If something went wrong, he was on the hook.

If you’re a person of a certain age, you smile when someone asks to see your ID at a bar. If a company gets to that age, you smile if someone says you act like a startup.
